Another ’87 Audi GT in North Carolina

http://eastnc.craigslist.org/cto/4019197644.html

This is an interesting one that has us a bit stumped. As we’ve seen with the last post Audi GT’s aren’t that uncommon, especially in North Carolina for some reason. This 1987 GT has the earlier non-body painted bumpers and sports some very cool 80’s five-ring graphics. What has us puzzled on this one is the all digital instrument panel (see pictures in the post). As there aren’t any wheel flares we don’t surmise this to be an UR-Quattro but without seeing the backend its hard to be sure. The seller claims that its one of three imported for “rally races”. We don’t buy the import figures but every other 80’s Audi that we’ve come across uses standard VDO analog gauges. The engine may need a rebuild soon but for $1500 it may be worth a look. Find it above on Craigslist in Havelock, NC

1987.5 Audi GT

http://asheville.craigslist.org/cto/4125616524.html

We came across this Audi GT in Black Mountain, North Carolina. While the GT isn’t as desirable as it’s UR-Quattro sibling it none the less looks the part, especially with the latter euro bumpers that this wears. The interior looks near perfect as does the paint and trim. There isn’t a very long description but if you’re in the general vicinity it’d be worth a look. Find it above on Craigslist with an asking price of $4500.

1972 Porsche 914 in South Carolina

http://greenville.craigslist.org/cto/4094276126.html

We came across this well sorted ’72 914 in Greenville, South Carolina. The original 1.7 has been replaced with a 2.0 liter and the fuel injection swapped for a pair of Weber 40 idf downdrafts. Overall this looks like a very clean driver. The seller claims that there is some rust repair in the dreaded hell hole but that the rest of the car is rust free. There seem to be a lot of spare parts that accompany the sale. We like the 914 Fuchs and euro turn signals both front and rear that this one is sporting. Check it out on Craigslist for $6500 which is said to be negotiable. If anyone buys it let us know how it turns out!

1979 Alfa Romeo GT Veloce

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/4103035371.html

Here’s a ’79 Alfa GTV that we found just south of Atlanta. This body style, shared with the GTV6, is one of the best looking Alfas of the 80’s and this one looks great sans bumpers and with big round driving lights. The GTV features a twin cam 2.0 liter four with twin sidedraft Webers. Find it here on Craigslist from an owner that claims to have extensive experience with the marque.

Another Grey Market ’85 BMW e30

This time we’ve dug up a 320i in Charlotte, NC. This 1985 Grey Market e30 is a 4-door and has a bit more grunt than the 316 that we featured earlier today. The original 2.0l four that this car would have had has been replaced with an M50 straight six from a ’92 e30 and extensive work has been done to the suspension. The plaid interior, vintage BBS’s and manual transmission make this much more desirable in our book. Find it on Craigslist with an asking price of $8000.

Grey Market ’85 BMW e30 in Augusta, GA

http://augusta.craigslist.org/cto/4040938623.html

We always keep an eye out for grey market cars from the late 70’s into the 80’s. The bumper laws in the US at the time made many European cars look as though they had diving boards at the front and rear and emission laws resulted in lower compression and horsepower power plants. Here we’ve found a 1985 BMW e30 316 which was never officially imported Stateside. The 1.6l engine is carbureted and the engine bay looks remarkably like a 2002. While this is an automatic we love the small bumpers, cloth seats and steelies that make this car stand out from the more common 325’s of the period. Find this one on Craigslist on Fort Gordon in Augusta, GA for $3,000.

1952 NSU 201zb in original condition

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261283622488#ht_500wt_1182

Here’s a very cool ’52 NSU motorcycle that we found on eBay. There aren’t a lot of NSU’s over here and the owner also claims to have a ’51 Zundapp. The NSU was up for auction a few weeks ago with a starting price of $3,900 but ended without a bid. Its now been reduced to $3,200 but it may be worth asking the seller for a package deal with the Zundapp depending on its condition. Find it above on eBay in Florida with 6 days to go.

1961 Fiat 600 in Charlotte, NC

http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/4018571396.html

Here’s a nice looking ’61 Fiat 600 in Gastonia, just outside Charlotte, North Carolina. The engine bay and interior look super clean and the slightly larger dimensions and bigger engine compared to more popular 500 will make this much more usable. An asking price of $6000 seems pretty reasonable.

Group A Homologation Mazda 323 GTX circa 1988

http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/4016834642.html

Rare, cool and cheap! Here’s a homologation car made so that Mazda could qualify for Group A rallying in the mid to late 80’s. The ad doesn’t give a year but we guess this to be a 1988 Mazda 323 GTX. Group A was the tamer sibling of the  “go wild or go home” Group B that Porsche 959s and Lancia Delta S4’s ran in. Some horrific accidents lead to a ban of Group B and a mandatory switch to Group A regulations. Since Mazda was already running this car they had an advantage against the teams that were scrambling to make their cars comply and ended up scoring three WRC victories with the 323.

This road version sports four wheel drive, a turbo charged 1.6l 16-valve four and 5-speed transmission. Find it on Craigslist in Raleigh, NC with 148k on the odometer for $2500.

Thanks to Nick at MotorCar Studio for the heads up on this one.
