1979 Porsche 911SC Targa

Up for sale is one of our own, my ’79 911sc Targa. I purchased this 911 two years ago and it has proven to be a fun, reliable driver since. The car wears its original Grand Prix white color however it has been resprayed at some point in time. There isn’t any rust on the car and the paint shows some wear (pictured). The interior is in fantastic shape. The seats, dashboard, carpets and Targa top are all in great shape with no rips or tears. A previous owner installed a Pioneer sound system with dual Alpine amplifiers and Blaupunkt speakers. The system sounds great even though it looks a bit too modern for my taste. Further specs are below.

3.0 Liter flat 6 with Bosch cis fuel injection

126k miles

Carrera chain tensioners

Turbo valve covers and cooling fan

Pop-off valve

Upgraded A/C system that actually blows cold

Records back to 1988

Recent service including oil/filter change, new plugs, new distributor cap/rotor, new air filter, new belts. The motor drips a bit if it has been sitting.

915 5 speed gear box shifts well into all gears and only grinds into third (as all 915s do) when shifted too quickly.

6×15″ & 7×15″ ATS Cookie Cutter alloy wheels with 205 60r15 Michelin MXV4 tires on the front and 215 60r15 Michelin MXV4 tires on the back. The tires have good life in them still.

Asking $30k or best offer. Feel free to email with questions or to arrange a time to drive it.

Gaggle of old motorcycles: 1960’s-early 1970’s BSA, Triumph, Husqvarna

Up for sale is a set of three vintage motorcycle projects. The BSA is a late 60’s single cylinder. Stuck engine but everything is there, clean tank. The Triumph is most likely an early 70’s 250 Trophy, no engine/trans but all else is there. Clean tank. The Husqvarna is an early 70’s two stroke. The engine spins freely and has compression. We have not tried to get it to start yet. $2600 for the lot of three bikes. Feel free to email with questions or to arrange a time to see them.

Shark-nosed Coupe: 1978 BMW 633CSi

Found here on eBay is a very original 1978 BMW 633csi. This shark-nose 6er wears its original Schwarz black on Veloursrot red color combination. The car was repainted in the last five years and the paint looks good. Inside the front and rear seats have been recently recovered and they are in like-new condition.

The 3.2liter straight six starts easily and runs great. There is a small oil drip that only shows itself after the car has been sitting for about a week. Other than that, everything is dry underneath. Recent engine work includes a tune up, oil and filter change, new air filter and new  belts.  On a recent trip to The Vintage BMW show outside Asheville, NC the car ran flawlessly and was a blast to take through the twisty mountain roads. Sixteen inch basket weave BMW wheels are shod with brand new tires and B&G lowering springs have been added to a new set of Bilstein shock absorbers. The original springs are included with the sale in case the next owner would like to put it back to the stock ride height.

Inside, all of the heater, blower fan, Alpine stereo, front power windows and gauges function as they should short of the odometer. The previous owner claims that the car has roughly 75-100k on it, which is consistent with the wear present. The passenger side rear window works well however the driver’s side window does not. The sunroof works using the manual crank in the trunk but the electric switch has gone out. The headliner is a bit tired and the dashboard is cracked which is common for e24’s.

Georgia is a no-title State for cars 1981 and older. The previous owner lost the original title for this BMW and Georgia does not issue new titles for old cars. Instead, a VIN check was processed by the police department that came back clear and the tag issued on that. The car will be sold on a bill of sale only. For states requiring title for registration I will provide a tag receipt, letter from the State of Georgia and Bill of Sale.

This is a great first generation 6 series grand tourer that loves eating up mile after mile with ease.

Feel free to email with questions or to arrange a time to see the car.

New Like ’72: Time warp 1972 Porsche 914

Found here on eBay is my very original 1972 Porsche 914.  I’ve been the caretaker of 914 #4722909726 for the last 10 years and we’ve been through our fair share of mountain roads and road trips. 914 09726 started life in Lander, Wyoming and then headed east to Dallas, Texas. I became its proud owner in 2007 and brought it to Athens, Georgia. The 914 still wears its original Light Ivory (L80E) paint that shows a nice patina. The original Pedrini wheels are shod with Bridgestone Potenza tires that have lots of life in them. The original black interior is in phenomenal shape considering the 44 years that it has seen.

When I bought the car it still wore its original fuel injection that will accompany the sale. I replaced it with a pair of Weber 40 IDF carburetors soon after for a bit more power. These carbs breathe into a 1.7l block that has been built out to 2.0l specs. 94mm pistons mated with 2.0l heads and a mild cam make this Type IV motor scream. The original heat exchanges are still present so it has perfectly functioning heat. At the back a new Bursch muffler lets everything exhale nicely.

914 09726 has recently benefited from an engine out service and reseal.  New piston rings, jug rings, pushrod tube seals, main seals and valve cover gaskets were installed. The valves have just been adjusted and fresh oil and filter added. This motor starts easily and pulls strongly. Triple digits on the highway are reached in a breeze yet it will still get 30mpg when driven conservatively.

The original tail shift 901 gearbox has been swapped for the newer, more precise side-shift unit. It shifts well into all five gears plus reverse and the clutch has plenty of life in it.

Rust can be a killer on these old Porsches. Due to its western origins this 914 shows very little car cancer. The floors, suspension mounts, rocker, and bottom of the firewall are all solid and don’t show any signs of rust. The beloved “hell-hole” underneath the battery tray has a 2.5” hole on the inner portion but the frame and engine support are all sound without rust. 914 09726 was originally fitted with dealer installed air conditioning. It has since been removed and the hole underneath the spare tire where the condenser resided has been patched.

The 356 and 911 craze of the last few years has put these cars out of reach for most enthusiasts. The 914 represent the last of the affordable  air-cooled Porsches. The mid-engine layout makes these cars handle like they’re on rails and its VW roots make it efficient and easy to work on. Feel free to email with questions or to arrange a time to come see 914 09726.

Rare for Over Here: 1984 Volkswagen Transporter DOKA Pickup

Found here on eBay is a 1984 Volkswagen Double Cab Transporter. This Doka started life in Europe but was brought over by a previous owner to roam the roads of the Southeast. The Doka has recently been repainted in its original Brilliant Orange color. The paint shines very well and there is zero rust anywhere on the truck. The bed, fold down inners and lower ¼ sections have all been sprayed with bed liner to guard against stone chips.  The 1.9l Wasserboxer runs well and breathes through an original Solex carburetor. The exhaust will need replacing as it has a couple holes however it does not leak oil or coolant. The 4-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly into all gears.

Inside, things are in nice shape for a utilitarian truck. The original front seats have a couple of cracks as does the rear bench. The floors, rubber mats and door cards are all in good shape.  The Doka shows 86k kilometers (still metric) though the odometer may have rolled once putting the mileage more likely at 111k miles.

Up top, a custom Yakima roof rack will give you plenty of room to stash anything needed for a weekend camping trip leaving the bed open for bikes, boats, etc. The Doka is sitting on 17” five star alloy wheels with 215/50 tires that have plenty of life left in them.

Load up this rare piece of German iron and hit the road for your next adventure.

The Transporter has a clear Georgia title and is located in Athens, GA. Feel free to email with questions.

California Cruising: 1968 Karmann Ghia Coupe

Found here on The Samba is a cherry 1968 Karmann Ghia. The car wears its original Velour Red color on a nicely restored black interior. The previous owner repainted the car and it shines nicely. The nose is amazingly straight and free of damage, which is pretty rare for an old Ghia. Underneath the heater channels, rockers and floor pans are all solid. The 1600 Dual Port motor runs great and starts easily while the transmission shifts smoothly into all four gears plus reverse. Inside the front seats have been freshly restored with new covers and padding. The dashboard and top pad are new and all of the lights and gauges function as they should. New speakers and a new Vintage Sound stereo sound great. The headliner and all of the glass are in great shape. New H4 headlights keep things bright out front and new 15 inch steel wheels and Bridgestone tires are ready to be driven. All this Ghia needs is a new owner to hop in and start cruising.
