Homologation Special: 1979 Mercedes 450 SLC 5.0 in Newnan, GA
Found here on Craigslist
This 1979 Mercedes Benz 450SLC 5.0 is a rare beast on these shores. It was built to homologate the SLC for the FIA World Rally Championship and featured an all aluminum 5.0liter V8 along with an aluminum hood and trunk. Production of these special edition cars ran from 1977 through to 1981 with roughly 2700 being produced. This particular model is shown to be the 1477th of the run. The owner claims that it was originally painted Champagne Metallic but it now wears an Astral Silver paint job which is correct to the period. The original “gas-burner” wheels come with it as do a set of Ronals which look particularly good on the C107 chassis. There aren’t any pictures of the front provided but we hope that it retained the larger Euro-spec headlights which also complement this body well. The seller claims that it needs some TLC but that you can drive it home.
Find it above on Craigslist in Newnan, Georgia with a modest asking price of $4999.
Porsche 914-6 Rally Recreation in Nevada
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1597420
Well, its for sale folks!! The VintageWerkes first saw this radical rally 914 in Monterey, California at Laguna Seca in 2010. The owner took a run-of-the-mill 1970 1.7l 914-4 and transformed it into a fire breathing 914-6 stripped down and then built back as a rally car that could probably tackle the Dakar. A 2.8 liter twin plug 911 motor is mated to a 915 gear box and all the rally garb you could imagine has been added. Now get this….with everything blazing you’ll have 14 lights shinning on the front of this thing (we hope the alternator has been upgraded) so the road should be pretty clear ahead. Couple that with a full roll cage, period rally gauges and a Red Stripe beer paint scheme and this would be a blast at any vintage rally event. Find it above on The Samba for a steep $55k. Do it yourself though and we’re sure you’d have more in it than that.

Group A Homologation Mazda 323 GTX circa 1988
http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/4016834642.html
Rare, cool and cheap! Here’s a homologation car made so that Mazda could qualify for Group A rallying in the mid to late 80’s. The ad doesn’t give a year but we guess this to be a 1988 Mazda 323 GTX. Group A was the tamer sibling of the “go wild or go home” Group B that Porsche 959s and Lancia Delta S4’s ran in. Some horrific accidents lead to a ban of Group B and a mandatory switch to Group A regulations. Since Mazda was already running this car they had an advantage against the teams that were scrambling to make their cars comply and ended up scoring three WRC victories with the 323.
This road version sports four wheel drive, a turbo charged 1.6l 16-valve four and 5-speed transmission. Find it on Craigslist in Raleigh, NC with 148k on the odometer for $2500.
Thanks to Nick at MotorCar Studio for the heads up on this one.
