Early SLC in Athens, GA: 1973 Mercedes-Benz 450
On eBay in Athens, GA this Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC ticks all the right boxes. Seventy-three marked the last year of import for the smaller and much better looking Euro bumpers. Add that to a massive for it’s day 4.5 liter V8 and what we think is the best looking of the W107 body styles and you’ve got a real grand tourer. With the windows down the B-pillarless design looks great and is similar to its main competition of the era, the e9, BMW CS and CSi. This car spent its life in the South where corrosion is minimal and it shows as there’s no rust to speak of. We’ve seen this car in person and the Feuerrot-red paint is old with some cracking but it still shines. This would make a fantastic vintage rally car. Add some period Bosch driving lights, a blacked-out hood and a 500 rear fin and you’ll look as though you just came out of the East-African rally. Very Original: Waterford Built 1989 Schwinn Paramount w/full Dura Ace 7402 Kit
Up for sale is a 1989 Schwinn Paramount in amazingly original condition. These were the last of the truly great, handmade frames to come out of Waterford, Wisconsin bearing the Schwinn name.
The 56cm frame is made of lugged Columbus SLX tubing and still wears its original Royal Blue color. We are the second owners of this frame having owned it since the early 90’s. It has always been pampered and kept inside.
The component kit features a period correct, Shimano Dura-Ace 7402 8-speed build short of the headset and bottom bracket which are Shimano Ultegra sealed bearing units. The Dura-Ace downtube SIS shifters show slight wear but still function well. The Dura-Ace 7401 brake levers are near flawless short of slight cracking of the original rubber hoods (pictured). The Dura-Ace hubs, front and rear derailleurs, crankset and brakeset are all in great shape with only slight wear which is to be expected for 25 year old parts.
The rest of the build features a vintage Bernard Hinault Turbo saddle complete with “The Badger” logos, 120mm 3TTT stem, and 3TTT Ergo Power Duo 42cm handlebars. Cinelli nude Cork-Gel bar tape and the brown leather saddle offset the Royal Blue frame well for that classic look. The pedals are Campagnolo Nuovo Record clips and straps to really put you back in the 80’s.
This bike will look as good on your wall is it will at the local group ride or sitting at the café while you enjoy a cup of joe. Stand out from the crowd of foreign built carbon and aluminum bikes with this blast from the past for a fraction of the cost of a new, top-of-the-line ride.

Here’s a very cool ’52 NSU motorcycle that we found on eBay. There aren’t a lot of NSU’s over here and the owner also claims to have a ’51 Zundapp. The NSU was up for auction a few weeks ago with a starting price of $3,900 but ended without a bid. Its now been reduced to $3,200 but it may be worth asking the seller for a package deal with the Zundapp depending on its condition. Find it above on eBay in Florida with 6 days to go.
American Made 1992 Basso Laguna

Here’s an interesting one from a shop called Vintage-Steel out of Germany. Its a ’92 Basso Laguna which was their first monocoque carbon frame but it was built in Van Buren, Maine by Aegis. This frame wears a Dura Ace 7400 groupo and all looks to be in nice shape. Check out www.steel-vintage.com for a wide array of cool old bikes.
1989 Coors Light Team Edition Lemond

Here is a fully specced 56cm Coors Light Team Edition Lemond found on eBay. For the ’89 season Greg Lemond ride for the ADR Team while in Europe where he won his second Tour de France by an amazing 8 seconds. Back in the US though he raced for the Silver Bullet and here’s the ride to prove it. This Columbus TSX frameset is wearing a period correct full Campagnolo C-Record groupo. The Delta brakes are a work of art which is nice considering they don’t function too well as brakes. You will certainly stand out at the next group ride with this.
