Only in the South: Chevy Powered Mercedes Dragster

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/cto/4214574024.html

Just when we thought we’d seen it all this big-block Mercedes dragster comes along and trumps the Coffin Hot Rod from the previous post. This Mercedes started life as a humble early 80’s coupe but the owner had plans……. A Ford 9″ rear end and Chevy Big Block V8 give this Merc its grunt. Outrageous rear wing and wheelie bar attempt to keep it on the drag strip. We can’t imagine the time put into something like this or for that matter why that time was put in but we’re sure it was a labor of love. One thing is for sure, you’d be the only person at the Saturday night drag races in a Mercedes! Find this one just outside Atlanta on Craigslist.

Outrageous Hot Rod of the Day: 1923 Ford T-bucket Casket Car…..

http://macon.craigslist.org/cto/4233505975.html

We found this grim hotrod while skimming Macon’s Craigslist and couldn’t resist sharing its outrageousness. The seller claims that the frame started as a ’23 Ford Model T but now features a built 350 V8, coffin (that’s right….coffin) body and monstrous Mickey Thompson wheels at the rear. It supposedly runs, drives and stops although this may be the most literal embodiment of a death trap that we’ve ever seen. No price listed but the seller is looking for interesting trades.

Rare over here: 1976 Lancia Scorpion in Alabama

http://bham.craigslist.org/cto/4241006954.html

This ’76 Lancia Scorpion looks like it has been sitting for a while in Jasper, Alabama. Still, mid-engined Lancias aren’t seen very often on these shores. The ad doesn’t give too much information about condition although it claims that it is all original. While the parts may be OE, the original metallic blue paint seen in the engine bay has been changed to re-sale red. With an asking price of $3200 its worth an email to see what the story is.

’72 BMW 2002 Shell

Clint from Maryville, TN who’s a friend of the shop has this ’02 body up for sale. The rear shock towers, floors and rockers are said to be very sound. Use this shell in place of a rusty square taillight ’02 or start from scratch to build a vintage rally or track car. Asking price is $750 or best offer. Reply to this post if you’re interested.

Old-school project: 1930’s DKW Barnfind

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/mcy/4231321090.html

We found this DKW project on Atlanta’s Craigslist. The owner claims that the original frame was converted to a soft-tail in the 50’s and that there are two engines included in the sale. There aren’t any pictures in the listing nor is there a price but if we get a reply we’ll post up what we get. Plan on this one being a full project as it hasn’t run since the early 60’s. The picture above is what they looked like new.

Restoration Ready: 1958 VW Single Cab Truck

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1570632

Up for sale on The Samba is a ’58 Single Cab Splitty project. This truck is remarkably sound and ready for a restoration. The previous owner media blasted the truck from stem to stern so there’s nothing to hide. The truck is equipped with period offroad goodies including coil-over front shocks and air-adjustable rear units. The rear wheel arches were cut to accommodate oversized knobbies but the original steel road wheels and tires are included.

The original engine is long gone but a 1600 dual port that is out to rebuild (it turns freely) is included. The truck bed is solid as are the rear floor pans. The front pans have been patched however new pans are included. Other new panels include a pair of jack points, a new lower nose panel and driver’s side rocker.

The front and rear glass along with the tail lights and turn signals are gone.

Rebuild the engine, add a set of Safari windows and clear coat the body to have one tough shop truck or start a ground up restoration without having to guess at what lurks beneath old fixes and resprays.

Clean, high revving Yamaha in Atlanta

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/mcy/4159852496.html

We came across this clean ’74 Yamaha RD200 on Craigslist over the weekend. These bikes are a scream both litteraly and figuratively as they’ll rev upwards of 10,000 rpm. While we wouldn’t ride this bike across the country, the torque that these have make them a blast to race around town on. Find it above in Dunwoody with an asking price of $1975.

http://athensga.craigslist.org/bik/4209599975.html

http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/pts/4205149643.html
Check out this posting on Portland’s Craigslist for sets of  5-3/4 inch round Amber headlights. The seller has multiple sets and $40 seems very reasonable. Nationwide shipping is $15 so we’re going to order up a few sets for that true vintage French fog light look!

Alarmingly Cool Transporter: 1980 Volkswagen German Ambulance

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1478515

Imagine picking the kids up from school in this Vanagon. Up for sale on The Samba is a 1980 Transporter (Vanagon to us) Ambulance imported from Germany. The owner claims it to be a factory built ambulance complete with sliding stretcher, high/low German siren, Hella blue roof light and a bunch of other specialty goodies. This bus is in Austin, TX and has been registered in the US so transferring to another state shouldn’t be a problem. Find is at the above link for $6,000.
